when mice try to move in, 
and the cats enact 
lengthy, 
drawn-out 
executions.

    My cat has grown too old
    to stand alone
    against the rising tide of mice
    that each October brings.
    He needs the calvary: traps
    and the artillery, the silent bars of poison
    massed in the attic

      Time to bring in reinforcements. All a house needs is one good, obsessive mouser.
