Autumn Insects

A little wasp on the petal of a fading brown-eyed susan

A grasshopper regards me warily from a milkweed leaf

Greenbriar encroaches on the house
A katydid is too green for these dogwood leaves

      Thanks! I really do need to get my macro lens on and try it out, though. I've gotten really interested in photographing the small creatures all around.

    Andy have you seen any mantis this year? I haven't.

      I did see one among the potatoes this summer, which is about par for around here. Like you, however, I haven't seen any monarchs and fewer than normal yellow swallowtails. On the other hand, there seem to be plenty of fritillaries, black swallowtails, red-spotted purples, mourning cloaks and others.
